T. Narasipur: A Court has sentenced a farmer to one year imprisonment and also imposed a penalty of Rs. 5,500 on him for encroachment of Government land in T. Narasipur taluk of the district.

Mahadevappa, a farmer of Kurubur village in T. Narasipur taluk is the one who was convicted.

Narasipur, following which the Revenue Department officials, acting on a direction from T. Narasipur Tahsildar, had evacuated the encroached land. T. Narasipur Police, who registered a case against the two under Section 192(a) of The Karnataka Land Revenue Act,1964 and IPC Section 447, conducted investigation and submitted the charge-sheet in T. Narasipur JMFC Court.

The JMFC Court, which partially heard the case, later transferred the case to Karnataka Land Grabbing Prohibition Special Court. A Bench of the Special Court, comprising Justices Nagalingagouda Patil and K.H. Ashwathnarayana Gowda, who heard the case, dropped  Kullappa from the case as he passed away in the course of hearing and held Mahadevappa guilty                               of the charges.
