Farmer leader demands Life Insurance Policy for agriculturists

Mysore/Mysuru: The Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers Association has urged the State Government to introduce Life Insurance Policy and other benefits for farmers, on the lines of neighbouring Telangana State.

Addressing a press meet here recently, Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar said that the Telangana Government has brought farmers under a Life Insurance cover of Rs.5 lakh and is itself paying the premium for the policy.

Asking the Karnataka Government too to follow the Telangana model, he said that the Government should urge the Centre for hiking MSP for agricultural produce. He also wanted the State to set up procurement centres at Hobli levels just like in Punjab, Telangana and Tamil Nadu.

Observing that there should be a change in Agricultural lending policy, he urged the Government to bring all agricultural produce under Crop Insurance cover.  Association office-bearers Attahalli Devaraj, Kiragasur Shankar and Bannallihundi Rajendra were present at the press meet.
