Farmers oppose Power Grid Line over agri fields

Mysuru:  Strongly opposing the proposed Hiriyur-Mysuru 400 KV Power Grid Line passing over their agricultural fields, nearly a hundred farmers under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) staged a  demonstration in front of the Power Grid office near Maidanahalli in Yelwal Hobli of the taluk yesterday.

Claiming that there are plans to draw power lines of the 400 KV power project over the agricultural fields at Kallur Naganahalli, Anandur, Chikkanahalli, Mallegowdanakoppal, Yachegowdanahalli, Doddegowdanakoppal, Hosakote and other villages of Mysuru taluk, the farmers alleged that power lines are being drawn to benefit Real Estate Mafia, builders and developers and the  politically influential.

The farmers demanded that the power lines be drawn on an alternate route and thus save the fields of small farmers, who are cultivating lands for decades.

They warned of intensifying the stir if the Power Grid route is not redrawn.

KRRS President Badagalapura Nagendra, office-bearers Hosakote Basavaraj, P. Marankaiah and others took part.
