Farmers seek fulfilment of various demands

Take out rally in city

Mysuru: Urging for fulfilment of their various demands, hundreds of farmers, under the banner of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha (KRRS) and Hasiru Sene, took out a rally in city this morning.

The rally, which commenced from Gun House Circle, passed through Sanskrit Pathashala Circle, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC), Jaganmohan Palace Road, Old Santhepet Road, D. Devaraj Urs Road, JLB Road, Metropole Circle and Hunsur Road, before reaching the Deputy Commissioner’s (DC) office, where a memorandum containing the charter of demands was presented.

The farmers, demanding farm loan waiver in full, raised slogans against the State and Central Governments, all along the route of the rally.

The demands included payment of appropriate compensation for crop loss due to vagaries of nature, distribution of seeds at subsidised prices for growing short-term crops, full farm loan waiver, setting up of maize procurement centres, repair of canals to ensure no water leaks, hike in SAP (State Advisory Price) for sugarcane and an end to exploitation of farmers by commission agents at Agricultural Produce Market Committees (APMC), among others.

KRRS office-bearers Badagalapura Nagendra, Hosur Kumar, Hosakote Basavaraj, Lokesh Raje Urs and others led the protest.
