Farmers stage protest against bus fare hike

Mysuru: Strongly condemning the steep bus fare hike, members of Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha and Karnataka Cane Growers Association, staged a joint demonstration in front of KSRTC Sub-Urban Bus Stand in city yesterday.

Addressing the protestors farmer leader Hallikerehundi Bhagyaraj said that Congress came to power after promising guarantee schemes to voters. But now it seems the Government treasury has gone empty and as such the Government is planning to fill its coffers by hiking bus fares and prices of milk and milk products and demanded a roll back of KSRTC fare hike.

Charging the Government of rising bus fares in order to offset the mounting losses of Transport undertakings that has run up to Rs. 24,000 crore, he said the state Government has pick pocketed the public to fill its coffers.

Earlier, the farmers raised slogans against the Government and laid on the road, disrupting vehicular movement on the ever busy B.N. Road.

Farmer leaders Valagere Ganesh, Kerehundi Rajanna, Pandavapura Naveed, Basavaraj, Maliyur Mahendra, Kasuvinahalli Manjesh, Deveerammanahalli Hundi Mahesh and others were present.
