Farmers stage protest to demand release of Kabini water

Mysuru: Farmers under the banner of State Federation of Farmer Associations and State Sugarcane Growers Association staged a demonstration in front of CADA (Cauvery) office on Sayyaji Rao road here yesterday, demanding full-scale release of water from Kabini Dam.

Maintaining that the Kabini Dam got filled up nearly 25 days ago, the farmers accused the State Government of releasing water to Tamil Nadu, while ignoring their demand to release water in the canals for agriculture purposes.

Reminding that last year too, the farmers faced similar problems as water was released to Tamil Nadu from Kabini, the farmers cautioned the authorities not to repeat the same.

Reiterating their demand of releasing water in all Kabini canals, the farmers warned of launching a stir if water was not released.

Cane Growers Association President Kurubur Shantakumar, Secretary Attahalli Devaraj, Saragur Shankar, Kerehundi Rajanna, B.P. Parashivamurthy and others were present.
