Farmers to lay siege to DC office tomorrow

DC Office

Thousands of farmers will stage a demonstration at the DC’s Office here on Feb.14 in protest against the Government’s negligence of the farming community.

Announcing this at a press meet here on Saturday Karnataka Sugarcane Growers Association President Kurubur Shanthakumar said farmers have been completely neglected by both the Central and State Government. Though the State has been reeling under the worst drought in over four decades, the Governments have failed in giving appropriate compensation for crop loss and not taken measures to extend agriculture loans, he said.

Urging the Government to supply uninterrupted power to farmers for atleast 10 hours a day to enable them to run pumpsets, Shanthakumar wanted the Government to distribute two litres of kerosene to the poor.

Thousands of farmers from Mysuru, Chamarajanagar and other districts are expected to take part in the Feb.14 demonstration, he said and added that farmers will hold a meeting at Gandhi Bhavan in Bengaluru on Feb.18 to discuss agrarian issues.

The Association office-bearers Attahalli Devaraj, Baradanapura Nagaraj and Ballari Manjunath were present.
