Farmers to protest against Power Grid on Dec. 30

Mysuru:  Upset over the Government’s move to draw Hiriyur-Mysuru 400 KV high tension power line over fertile lands at Yelwal and surrounding areas, farmers under the banner of KRRS will stage a demonstration in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s Office here on Dec.30.

Announcing this at a press meet here yesterday, KRRS District General Secretary Hoskote Basavaraj alleged that the Hiriyur-Mysuru High Voltage power line is being drawn over fertile lands of farmers after altering the route under pressure from real estate mafia. Maintaining that the earlier route was more scientific, Basavaraj alleged that land developers and real estate mafia had forced the Government to change the route as it would badly hurt their interests.

Claiming that the power line that now passes over fertile lands, would pose a severe threat to standing crops and other farming activities, he said that the farmers would not allow the line to pass over fertile lands.

KRRS office-bearers P. Marankaiah, Prabhakar,  Chandrashekar, Mahesh and others were present.
