Farmers to stage indefinite stir for closure of distillery from tomorrow

Mysuru: Opposing the functioning of a distillery in the village, farmers under the banner of T. Ramegowda and Raghupati Nayaka Vedike, will be staging an indefinite stir in front of Bannari Distillery at Alaganchipura from tomorrow. Disclosing this at a press conference at Pathrakartara Bhavan here yesterday, Vedike’s Mysuru District General Secretary Immavu Raghu said that a peaceful protest for two days will be held from June 26 which would be led by Vedike’s District President T. Ramegowda Vidyasagar and later will stage an indefinite stir.

He further said that former CM Siddharamaiah, MLA Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah, State President J.L. Lakshminarayana and Hasiru Sene State President Kodihalli Chandrashekar will participate. He alleged that the distillery located at Alaganchipura in Nanjangud was polluting the ground water and the environment and a farmer’s family has sought euthanasia besides stating that even relatives are afraid to come to the village even in case of anyone’s death due to the polluted environment.

Himmavu Raghu has urged the authorities to close down the distillery in the interest of villagers and their health. General Secretary Puttabasappa, Convenor Satish Rao, Doddaiah and others were present.
