Mysore/Mysuru: Urging the Union Government to repeal the three newly introduced Farm Laws, farmers under the banner of KRRS (Karnataka Rajya Raitha Sangha) will take out a ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ on June 26, marking the completion of seventh month of the indefinite nationwide stir launched by the farmers over the issue.
Announcing this at a press meet at Jaladarshini Guest House on Hunsur Road here yesterday, KRRS President Badagalapura Nagendra urged the Government to repeal the three Farm Laws, which he claimed was detrimental to the interests of the farming community.
Pointing out that over a hundred farmers representing a total of 42 farmer groups will be taking part in ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ at Bengaluru on June 26, Nagendra said that the farmers will gather in front of Mahatma Gandhi statue at Maurya Circle there and later proceed to Raj Bhavan at 10.30 am, with all COVID precautionary and safety measures in place.
He further said that the demonstration is being taken out with the theme’ Krishi Rakshisi – Prajaprabhutva Ulisi’ (Protect agriculture – Save Democracy).
Contending that those who severely opposed Emergency when Indira Gandhi was the Prime Minister, are now indulged in suppression of people’s voice through an undeclared Emergency, Nagendra said that the ‘Raj Bhavan Chalo’ is a nationwide stir, where farmer organisations will stage demonstrations in front of Raj Bhavans in all States.
Stating that on June 26 there will be demonstrations at all District and Taluk Headquarters too, he urged the Karnataka Government to expedite Mekedatu Project in the interests of the State’s farmers.
He also wanted the Union Government to withdraw the Four Labour Codes, which he said were anti-labour in nature. Farmer leaders Hoskote Basavaraj, Jagadish Surya, P. Marankaiah and others were present.
