Hunsur: A father, who was taking his daughter to a garments shop to buy her clothes for her birthday were killed, when a speeding car rammed into the scooter they were travelling at Kallu Betta junction in the taluk last evening.
The deceased have been identified as Jayaram (50), a farmer and his daughter Likitha (19), a first year BA student. They are the residents of Nugenahalli in Periyapatna taluk.
As Likitha’s birthday fell on Sunday (July 23), Jayaram was taking his daughter on his Suzuki Access scooter to Hunsur to buy her clothes yesterday. When they reached Kallu Betta junction at about 7.45 pm, a speeding Hyundai Creta car, which was coming from the opposite direction, rammed into the scooter resulting in Jayaram and Likitha being thrown from their scooter for about 60 ft. killing Jayaram on the spot and Likitha sustaining serious injuries.
Likitha was being rushed in an ambulance to Mysuru, when she breathed her last near Bannikuppe, said the Police.
Soon after the accident, the car driver fled from the spot leaving the vehicle behind. Hunsur Rural SI Puttaswamy has seized both the vehicles, registered a case and is investigating.
