Father, son meet watery grave while bathing sheep in canal

Mandya: A man and his son, who had gone to a canal to bathe their sheep, have been drowned. The incident took place on Sunday afternoon at Visvesvaraya Canal at Goravale village in the taluk.

The deceased are Hanumanthegowda (48) and his son Hemanth (13) of Goravale.

Hemanth, who was bathing his sheep, accidentally slipped and fell into the canal and his father, who saw his son falling into the canal, jumped into the water to rescue him but both were drowned. While Hemanth’s body was found at a distance and fished out, the body of Hanumanthegowda has been swept away. The villagers informed the incident to Shivalli Police, who rushed to the spot and conducted a search operation but had to stop it due to bad light as it had become dark. The search operation continued on Monday and the body of Hanumanthegowda was traced in the canal at Echagere village and was fished out. The body was swept away for more than 15 kilometres, the Police said. Post-mortem was conducted at the District Hospital and the bodies were handed over to the family members.

A case has been registered at Shivalli Police Station following a complaint from one Ramappa, relative of the deceased.
