Mysuru: Devaraja Traffic Police and the officials of the Metrology Department jointly conducted operations in different parts of the city and registered complaint against 24 autorickshwas found with faulty metres. They also collected a fine of Rs.12,000.
Autorickshaws with faulty meters and those who had not installed the electronic meters were caught and fined Rs.500 each.
The Police checked the autorickshaws in the Pre-paid auto stands in Makkaji Chowk, Gandhi Square and B.N. Road.
Only a few autos had new meters installed. It was found that most of the autorickshaws were still running using old meters. A few did not even have the meters.
Every year the meters have to be checked. If the meters are faulty then it should be repaired. Otherwise during checking if they are found faulty then the autorickshaw drivers have to pay a fine of Rs.500, warned Legal Metrology Department Inspector K.M. Mahadevaswamy.
