Mysuru: The Mysuru District Amateur Theatre Artistes Forum, Mysuru, in association with Karnataka Nataka Academy, Bengaluru, had organised a programme at the Mini Theatre in Kalamandira premises here on Mar. 27 to mark World Theatre Day celebrations.
Rajyotsava Awardee H.K. Ramnath, Karnataka Nataka Academy Award recipients Ashwath Kadamba and Santosh Kumar Kusanur and Sahitya Souharda Samman Awardee Dr. H.M. Kumaraswamy, were felicitated on this occasion.
Speaking after inaugurating the programme, National School of Drama (NSD)-Bengaluru Centre Director C. Basavalingaiah said, “Now a days, creating fear has become a weapon for miscreants in the society. The society seems to be living in fear, but the theatre is assuring the society that there is still hope.”
Addressing the gathering, Rangayana Mysuru Director Addanda C. Cariappa said, “During the Budget Session, they could not discuss Rs. 1 crore grant released for Rangayana due to the CD scandal involving BJP MLA Ramesh Jarkiholi. As of now, over 2,200 theatre enthusiasts have watched the play ‘Parva.’ We should set aside our personal ideologies and work together for the sake of theatre.”
Later, Arivu Theatre troupe staged the play titled ‘QED,’ which was based on the life of renowned physicist Prof. Richard Feynman, directed by Yathish N. Kollegala. American playwright Peter Parnell’s English play has been translated to Kannada by Shashidhar Dongre.
