Felicitation to retired officers marks Police Flag Day in city

Mysuru: The Unification of Karnataka, which had no defined borders before independence, occurred in 1956 and the various Police Platoons came under one wing of the State Police in 1962. Before that, the Karnataka Police Manual was made in 1960 and Karnataka Police Act in 1963, said retired Deputy Commissioner of Police M.M. Mahadevaiah.

He was speaking after receiving the guard of honour at the annual Police Flag Day celebrations organised jointly by the Mysuru City Police, Mounted Police,  Karnataka Police Academy (KPA), Mysuru District Police, KSRP 5th Battalion and Police Training School at the CAR Grounds near the foot of Chamundi Hill here this morning.

The Police Flag Day is celebrated every year on Apr.2 to raise funds for the benefit of retired Police officials, he said.

Placing a few demands before the Police authorities, Mahadevaiah said that just like in the Army, there must be three percent reservation in the Police force for the children and relatives of the Police and also jobs for retired Police officials. In the Police Welfare Fund there must be facility created for reimbursement of medical expenses and other facilities.

He also asked the officials and staff to bring to the notice of the higher authorities when they faced any problems and then advised them to behave cordially with the public as the Police also come from the same society as the common man.

Mysuru City Police Commissioner K.T. Balakrishna pinned the Police Flag  on Mahadevaiah.

IGP (Southern Range) Umesh Kumar, KPA Director Vipul Kumar, SP Amit Singh, KPA Deputy Director and Principal of Police Training School Dharanidevi Malagatti, DCP M. Muthuraj and other officials were present.

On the occasion, 15 retired Police officials including Inspector M. Siddamallappa, Assistant Head Constables (AHC) Syed Mugdam and Channabasavachar, Head Constable V. Muthuraj, Reserve Police Inspector E.A Devaiah,  Assistant Reserve Sub-Inspector H.R. Raju, AHC S. Murthy, Karnataka Police Band player D. Narayan, English Band player N.K. Vijaykumar, Woman Assistant Sub-Inspector V. Puttamma, AHC D. Devapal, Assistant Reserve Sub-Inspector Thammadaiah, Sub-Inspector C.M. Eerappa, Section Superintendent Kamalamma and Assistant Sub-Inspector Basavaraje Urs  were felicitated.
