Mysuru: Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan was the greatest humanist and teacher that the world has seen and as a Shikshak, one needs immense patience to teach and the relation between Guru-Shishya and elders and students cannot be measured in words, said Dr. H.K. Ramnath, retired teacher of Demonstration Multipurpose School, theatre director, activist and Audio Producer, Regional Institute of Education (RIE), Mysuru.
He was delivering the keynote address at the Teachers Day celebrations organised under the auspices of District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, Mysuru District Public Education Department, Teachers and Child Welfare Fund, Bengaluru, at Kalamandira here this morning.
He said that Radhakrishnan spread the message of Indian Philosophy around the world, when the country was known only for its blind superstitious and rigid religious beliefs.
Radhakrishnan was conferred the Bharat Ratna award and it is significant for Mysureans that he taught Philosophy in Maharaja’s College between 1918 and 1921, he said.
Nine Primary and nine High School teachers were conferred the ‘Best Teachers Award’ at the District-level and 83 retired teachers were felicitated on the occasion.
MLA M.K. Somashekar, Mayor M.J. Ravikumar, Deputy Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council Marithibbegowda, DC D. Randeep, Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman B. Siddaraju, MyLac Chairman H.A. Venkatesh, Deputy Mayor Rathna Lakshman, Taluk Panchayat President Kalamma Kemparamaiah and others were present on the occasion.
Philosophy Department, UoM: Dr. Yathindra Siddharamaiah inaugurated the Teachers Day organised by the Philosophy Department at Rani Bahadur auditorium and said that Dr. Radhakrishnan had spoke against the social ills and superstitious beliefs plaguing the country and how he introduced Indian Philosophy to the whole world through his writings on Philosophy, which even to this day shines bright for teachers to emulate.
University of Mysore (UoM) acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dayananda Mane, Registrar D. Bharathi, Philosophy Department’s Dr. Hemanth Kumar, Dr. L. Rohit and others were present.
Teachers Day was also celebrated at Maharaja’s College and other places in the city.
