Felling of 561 trees: Don’t be mute spectators

Sir,

I refer to Dr. K. Javeed Nayeem’s article titled “Felling of 561 trees: A daylight highway robbery!” published in SOM dated May 10. The article presents a well-analysed and thought-provoking perspective on protecting the majestic trees along Bengaluru-Nilgiri Road while implementing the proposed flyover project at the Manipal Hospital junction.

When there is scope to save a large number of trees from being axed, the issue certainly deserves detailed discussion involving all stakeholders, instead of proceeding with a one-sided approach advocated by a few proponents of the project.

Even if motorists may face some inconvenience due to the redefined one-way traffic system suggested by Dr. Nayeem, it would be worthwhile if it helps preserve hundreds of trees.

As responsible citizens of Mysuru, we must unite and raise our voices in support of protecting the city’s green heritage. This is not the time to remain silent spectators.
