“Fellow of Indian Phytopathological Society” Award

Mysuru: City’s well- known Plant Doctor Dr. Vasanth Kumar Thimakapura has been selected for the prestigious “Fellowship of Indian Phytopathological Society” by Indian Phytopathological Society (IPS), a division of Indian Agricultural Research Institute.

Dr. Vasanth has been invited to receive the award in the 70th National Symposium on “Plant Health Management Embracing Eco-sustainable Paradigm” at Assam Agricultural University, Jorhat, Assam on Feb.15.

He has been striving relentlessly to give practical solutions to the crop problems more particularly in Crop Disease Management. Many horticultural and commercial crops like Banana, Black Pepper, Tobacco, Ginger, Chrysanthemum, Papaya, Capsicum etc., were affected by Root rots and wilts. There were no practical solutions to these diseases so far. However, with his innovative research, extensive field knowledge, Dr. Vasanth has successfully controlled these diseases which is a major breakthrough in the field of Crop Disease Management.

Recently Papaya Ring Spot Virus disease, a very big menace for Papaya farmers, has also been successfully controlled with his innovative methods.
