Mysore/Mysuru: Byappanahalli Police of Bengaluru investigating into female foeticide racket arrested the Head Nurse of a private hospital in Mysuru city yesterday.
Usharani, Head Nurse of Chamundeshwari Hospital, behind now defunct Shanthala Theatre, was arrested by Byappanahalli Police, who had already arrested 10 accused in the case, including the former nurse of Mathaa Hospital in Udayagiri here, where the foetuses were being aborted. Ever since the female foeticide racket was busted, Police have traced the cases to Mysuru, Mandya and Bengaluru and arrested those involved in the illegal activity. They have been making startling revelations during the course of enquiry.
Acting on the information provided by arrested persons, it has emerged that touts were playing a key role in identifying and bringing those pregnant willing for abortion. Puttaraju, a middleman, had been bringing such women to Chamundeshwari Hospital, where Head Nurse Usharani was carrying out abortions with the assistance of another woman. Police have taken that woman also into their custody and quizzing her.
Police had also issued a notice to Jagadish, the owner of Chamundeshwari Hospital, to provide the records of the hospital. Jagadish, who appeared before the investigators, clarified that the management had in no way colluded with the racketeers.
“Those involved in the racket may have brought women to kill female foetuses at the hospital, but I am not aware about such activities,” Jagadish has told Police.
