Female graduates surpass male in medal tally at School of Life Sciences, JSS AHER

Mysuru: School of Life Sciences, Mysuru and Life Sciences Departments of JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research (JSS AHER), Mysuru, had organised Graduates’ Reception for B.Sc and M.Sc graduates of the academic year 2021-22 at Sri Rajendra Auditorium, JSS Medical College, Mysuru recently.

In his welcome address, Dr. K. A. Raveesha, Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, gave a brief introduction about the genesis of The School of Life Sciences and its journey so far over the years.

The School of Life Sciences offers unique and versatile programmes like Bioinformatics, Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Cosmetic Science, Geoinformatics, Medical Statistics, Medical Physics, Nanoscience & Technology, Sports Nutrition & Management, alongside Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Environmental Science, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, and Nutrition & Dietetics.

The chief guest of the event, Prof. H.A. Ranganath, Chairman, Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Information Technology, Design & Manufacturing, Kurnool, said that ‘in academic, parents are the teachers and their role has to be highlighted in such occasions.’

He appreciated JSS AHER for its growth through strong and positive public perception achieved through successful academic and administrative ambience for students in their important juncture of training. 

He congratulated the students by calling them the “Ambassadors of Life Sciences” and expressed his appreciation in view of the year being considered by UNESCO as the “International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development”.

He also cited the instances of research in basic sciences like research in DNA, RNA, and Proteins rightly called Holypolymers of biology leading to a remarkable revolution in technology into vaccine development and even in CRISPR-Cas9 technologies.

Dr. C.G Betsurmath, Executive Secretary, JSS Mahavidyapeetha, presided.

Dr. Surinder Singh, Vice- Chancellor, JSS AHER, Dr. B. Manjunatha, Registrar, JSS AHER, Dr. Vishal Kumar Gupta, Dean (Academics), JSS AHER, Coordinators and staff of the School of Life Sciences, Mysuru and Life Sciences Departments were present during the event.

Dr. Sudeendra Bhat, Controller of Examinations, JSS AHER administered the oath to the graduates.

A total of 666 (294 UG and 372 PG, with a Female: Male ratio of 75:25) students have graduated in the year 2022.

Out of 666, total 35 graduates (15 UG and 20 PG) were felicitated with medals and certificates for their outstanding performance by scoring highest marks in the exams conducted by JSS AHER. It is noteworthy that 83 percent of the toppers were females and 17 percent were males.
