‘Feminism is not an armed combat but a peaceful movement’

Book on feminism released

Mysuru:  Abhiruchi Prakashana and Samatha Study Centre had organised a programme at Maneyangala in Kalmandira premises here on Nov.24 for the release of the book ‘Sthreevada Chintane Mattu Horata’ written by H.S. Shreemathi.

Releasing the book, Senior Journalist and writer Dr. Vijayamma opined that feminism was not an armed combat but a movement shaped through peace and compassion. She asserted that feminist movement should continue till women become a part of the decision-making authority for all developmental changes in society. She observed that the patriarchal society has not portrayed women correctly. She advised people to oppose misogynistic attitude in society.

Continuing, Dr. Vijayamma observed that though male chauvinism is still prominent in society, a few men are able to understand the concept of feminism.

An allegation prevails in political sector that women fail to perform even if they are given an opportunity and power. Compared to men, women are neither good nor bad and many times goodness is unduly dumped on women which they should shrug off if necessary, she suggested.

Tarikere Government First Grade College Professor Dr. Savita Bannadi opined that many people have misconstrued the concept of feminism and suggested women to garner strength to promote feministic thoughts.

Critic Dr. O.L. Nagabhushan Swamy presided. Chandramati Sondha of Samatha Study Centre and Publisher Abhiruchi Ganesh were present.
