Mysore/Mysuru: Following COVID-19 pandemic and restrictions on the movement of vehicles, the number of accidents had come down, but still, 15 persons were killed and 100 injured in 90 road accidents that took place during the lockdown period from Mar. 1 to May 31 in all Traffic Police limits in city.

In 2019, between Mar. 1 and May 31, 37 people were killed and nearly 200 persons were injured in 171 road accident cases. Due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions, the number of road accidents in city had come down with fewer fatalities.

As the lockdown has been relaxed from June 1 and the authorities are giving permission for religious places, tourist spots and various commercial establishments to open from June 8, the density of vehicles plying on roads have increased. Many, who were afraid to take KSRTC service or autorickshaws for their destinations are now taking out their vehicles to reach their destinations, resulting in more vehicular traffic in city, according to Traffic Police.
