Fight over water to agri field: Man kills sis-in-law, her son

Pandavapura: A fight over drawing water through a pump set to agricultural field resulted in a man hacking his sister-in-law and her son to death using a sickle at Heggadahalli village in Pandavapura taluk on Wednesday morning.

The deceased have been identified as Shanthamma (45), wife of Shankaregowda and her son Yashwanth (17). The accused is Satish, younger brother of Shankaregowda. Soon after committing the crime, Satish has surrendered to the Police.

Details: Shankaregowda and Satish are sons of Mayigowda of Heggadahalli village. Their agri fields are next to each other and both use the same water pump to draw water to their fields. This used to result in frequent fights between the two families, it is learnt. On Wednesday morning, Shanthamma went to the pump house and switched on the water pump to draw water to her agri field and Satish, who came to the spot, objected to it.

Soon, wordy duel ensued between them which went out of control and Satish, in a fit of rage assaulted Shanthamma with a sickle brutally. When Yashwanth came to his mother’s rescue, Satish assaulted him with the sickle which resulted in both Shanthamma and Yashwanth being killed on the spot. Soon after committing the crime, Satish went to Melukote Police Station along with the sickle and has surrendered before the Police.

Melukote Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
