Vandalism at gold scam accused Chinnathambi’s club
Mysuru: Following the ransacking of ‘Club 64’, a bar and restaurant owned by multi-crore gold scam accused Soundar Raj alias Chinnathambi, by several customers who had pledged their gold valuables with him, Kuvempunagar Police have registered an FIR against six persons, including Poornima, Amith, Pavithra, Lokesh and Mahesh.
The FIR was registered based on a complaint lodged by restaurant in-charge Kavithashri.
Last week, the victims had approached Kuvempunagar Police Station and submitted a memorandum seeking compensation by confiscating the assets of Chinnathambi. With the Police reportedly failing to pacify the agitated victims, a group of enraged people ransacked the restaurant near BEML Layout Arch in Srirampura Second Stage.
They threw furniture out of the premises and broke flower pots demanding justice. They also raised slogans against the Police and other officials, accusing them of shielding Chinnathambi.
Meanwhile, Kavithashri, in her complaint, alleged that the restaurant suffered losses of around Rs. 40 lakh. She alleged that the miscreants damaged glass tables, chairs, air-conditioners and CCTV cameras, besides throwing furniture outside the premises. She also alleged that Rs. 1.82 lakh kept in the cash box was stolen.
Based on the complaint, Kuvempunagar Police registered an FIR against six persons.
Meanwhile, Krishnaraja (KR) MLA T.S. Srivatsa has demanded the constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the multi-crore gold scam.
Speaking to media persons on Monday, he said that following complaints from people who were allegedly cheated by Chinnathambi, the Police had arrested him and remanded him in judicial custody. However, the complainants became agitated after he was released on bail, he said.
Pointing out that the victims had submitted a petition to him seeking justice, the MLA said he had launched a struggle to secure justice for them. He added that the victims were uncertain whether they would get justice from the Police or elected representatives.
As the case is before the Court, nobody should take the law into their own hands, Srivatsa said, urging the complainants to wait for the judicial process to conclude.
He alleged that despite the scam being a major one and having taken place under the jurisdiction of Kuvempunagar Police, no action had been taken against any Police personnel.
Srivatsa also said that he would raise the issue during the forthcoming Assembly Session.
