Mysuru: Summer is here and so are the incidents of fire. To prevent fire accidents and save the lives of victims in a speedy and efficient manner, fire service personnel were trained this morning in a fire-drill to handle fire emergencies.
Fire officers were taught how a building could be evacuated in the event of a fire or other emergencies. The drill was organised at Saraswathipuram Fire Station as part of Fire Safety Week observed by the Department of Fire Services every year between April 14 and April 20.
At the drill, a live demonstration was organised on accident-prone areas and the extent of fire that could be caused due to inflammable materials. The rally was held to ensure that all staff recognise the alert and evacuation signals and know the relevant procedures, exit routes, and assembly areas. Checks were also carried out on alarm systems to ensure they are working correctly and that emergency exits are unobstructed.
Prior to the fire drill, an awareness rally was taken out from the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple premises this morning. The rally was flagged off by Mayor M.J. Ravikumar and MLA Vasu. Students from various colleges in the city, nursing students from Apollo Hospital, Fire Service personnel, Quick Response Teams, fire engine teams, Varuna teams and over 15 different models of fire engines participated in the rally.
The rally, which began at the Kote Anjaneyaswamy Temple, passed through D. Devaraja Urs Road, DC’s office, Maharaja Ground and culminated at the Saraswathipuram Fire Station.
Chief Fire Officer Kauser, Deputy Fire Officer K.P. Gururaj and Regional Fire Officer Eshwar Naik and other officers were present.
