First State-level conference of Kannada doctor-writers held at Mangaluru

Mysuru: The first ever State-level conference of  doctors, who are also Kannada writers, was held under the aegis of IMA, Mangaluru chapter, at its IMA Hall on May 26. Dr. S.P. Yoganna of Mysuru was the Conference Chairman.

Speaking after inaugurating the meet, Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) Vice-Chancellor Dr. S. Sachidanand said that medical literature incorporates human values.

He also announced that the RGUHS will bring out medical books in Kannada.

State Kannada Sahitya Parishat President Dr. Manu Baligar, who delivered the keynote address, said that it was happy to note that the number of doctor- writers were on the rise recently.

He assured of holding exclusive medical literary meets during Kannada Sahitya Sammelanas in the future.

Dr. S.P. Yoganna, in his presidential address, gave a brief on the growth of medical Kannada literature over the ears.

Terming Dr. M. Shivaram (Rashi) as the doyen of modern medicine, he stressed on the need for finding appropriate Kannada words and references for medical terms and clinical explanations.

Calling for building sound medical literary terms and descriptions for imparting medical education in Kannada, Dr. Yoganna urged RGUHS to take up the task.

Conference Organising Secretary Dr. Annaiah Kulal welcomed while IMA Mangaluru President Dr. Satish Rai proposed a vote of thanks.

About 300 doctor-writers from across the State attended the day-long event, which featured seminars and lectures.
