Five arrested for storing huge quantity of explosives at a house in Kushalnagar

Mysuru: Kushalnagar Rural Police, who raided a house at Kushalnagar in Kodagu, have arrested five persons for storing explosives illegally and have seized a large quantity of explosives from the house.

The explosives were seized during a raid carried out on a house in Sundaranagar on Wednesday night. Following a tip off, the raid was conducted on a house belonging to one Manju following which 21 electronic detonators, 200 non electronic detonators, 239 ammonium nitrate tubes, 25 kg calcium hydroxide and 14 safety fuses were seized. The Police were accompanied by the Bomb Disposal Squad during the raid.

The arrested are 37-year-old R. Manju and 45-year-old Kubera of Sundaranagar, 33-year-old Mani of Basaveshwara Layout, 31-year-old K.R. Ravi of Baichanahalli and 54-year-old Rizwan Ahmed of Bettadapura.

The explosives seized were capable of causing massive destruction and the motive behind stocking such a large quantity is being probed.

Kushalnagar Rural Police, who have registered cases against the accused, produced them before a Court, which remanded them to judicial custody.

Kushalnagar Sub-Inspector Jagadish, Madikeri Rural Inspector Rachappa, Probationary SI Archana, Special Crime Detection Squad’s Dayanand, Saji, Suresh and Bomb Disposal Squad personnel, took part in the operation.
