Five killed, over 10 injured while on their way to polling booth in Hassan

Hassan:  Five persons, including three women were killed, while more than 10 persons sustained injuries in separate road mishaps in the district yesterday. The deceased and the injured were on their way to the polling station when the mishap took place.

In the first incident, four persons including three women were killed when a lorry rammed into the autorickshaw in which they were travelling to a polling booth. The mishap took place near Ramenahalli in Belur taluk of the district.

While the deceased have been identified as Sharadamma (70), Kamalamma (65), Jayalakshmi (45), auto driver Padmesh and Lakshmegowda (65), the injured persons have been admitted to Hassan and Belur Government Hospitals.

While three died on the spot, auto driver Padmesh, who was seriously injured, breathed his last while being shifted to a hospital.

Belur Police have registered a case in this regard.

In another incident, a 35-year-old man, who was proceeding in his car to a polling booth was killed when he lost control of the car after a cow came in front of his car resulting in the car toppling on the road near Holenarasipur.

The deceased has been identified as Raju, a resident of Chittanahalli Layout. He was proceeding in his Swift car to his native place Sankanahalli, when the mishap occurred.

Holenarasipur Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
