Jubilant party workers greet Rizwan with apple, mosambi and rose garlands
Mysuru: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Rizwan Arshad arrived to a grand welcome in the city this morning.
This was his maiden visit to the city, after being sworn-in as the Minister in the Cabinet of Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.
Rizwan, a native of Mysuru, arrived in his Special Utility Vehicle (SUV) from Bengaluru at Bade Makaan junction near Siddique Nagar in Bannimantap, when he was accorded a thunderous welcome, by his joyous supporters, majority of them being Congress workers belonging to minorities wing from Narasimharaja (NR) Assembly Constituency, with the mood elevated by the beatings of native drums.
As he proceeded towards Tipu Circle, he was offered garlands made of apples and mosambis, followed by showering of flower petals by his supporters, standing on the bucket of two earth moving vehicles, on the either side of the circle.
While at Jilani Petrol Bunk Circle (Dr. Rajkumar Circle), Rizwan was felicitated with a huge garland made of roses.
Rizwan, who reciprocated the love showered by his supporters by waving at them and shaking hands, standing through the sunroof of his SUV, went in a procession towards the City Congress office near Railway Station on JLB Road.
The procession passed through St. Philomena’s Church, Meena Bazaar and Sawday Road, with supporters, including men and women bursting fire crackers. He also received party flags handed over by his supporters. The jubilant party workers also carried Rizwan on their shoulders to a distance, as others raised slogans.
As a precautionary measure, Police belonging to the Commando Unit had been deployed around the vehicle of Rizwan, drawing a barricade of rope. ACP of NR Sub-division K.T. Mathews Thomas supervised the security arrangements.
Earlier on his arrival in the city, Rizwan drove to the residence of NR MLA Tanveer Sait in Udayagiri. He was closeted with Sait, who was one among the strong Ministerial aspirants, for some time and nobody is aware of what transpired between them.
Karnataka Exhibition Authority Chairman Ayub Khan, former Mayor Arif Hussain, former Corporators Syed Hasarathulla, Suhail Baig, former Chairman of Mysuru District Waqf Advisory Committee Ghayaz Ahmed Akram, Congress leaders Showkath Ali Khan, Syed Farooq and Akram Pasha, President of Tahaffuz Khabarasthan Committee Fayaz Pasha, Secretary Mahmood Ali Khan Khurrath, Member Shabnam Shaheed and others were present.
