Food safety checking drive

Mysuru, June 20 (DM)- DC  G. Lakshmikanth Reddy said that Food Safety Officials will carry out a month-long special intensive drive for inspection of the quality of food served and food safety measures taken by roadside street vendors, eateries, small hotels and restaurants.

He was speaking after presiding over a meeting of Food Safety Standards Officials at his office in Siddarthanagar here yesterday.

Directing the officials to be a regular part of the quality checking drives launched by the MCC and other Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Lakshmikanth Reddy told them to immediately issue a notice to such food sellers who do not follow Food Safety Standards and to recommend suspension of their trade license.

He further instructed to also carry out checks in Star Hotels and other food vends if there are any suspicions about maintenance of Food Safety Standards.

“The officials should ensure that all norms laid out by the Government while issuing trade licence are followed by food sellers. The officials should act preventively by carrying out regular checks so that any mishaps do not occur, rather than taking steps  after any mishaps happen. The food sellers on their part, should not use banned substances or additives in food preparation that may cause adverse effects on health of customers and at the same time must take measures for maintenance of hygiene and cleanliness in the vicinity of their business,” the DC said and asked the food sellers to strictly follow the instructions/ guidelines  given by the Government from time to time.

MCC Deputy Commissioner Somashekar, Food Safety Officer Dr. Ravindra, Kantharaj and other officials were present.
