Food Technology course intake increased to 100

Mysuru: There is a huge demand for food technology courses and along with increasing the intake to 100, a Centre of Excellence will be opened soon, said Central Food Technological Research Institute (CFTRI) Chief Scientist R. Subramanian.

He was speaking at the Awards Day function organised at the Institute auditorium, here yesterday and said that at present only 25 students were being admitted to the food technology courses.

This will be increased to 100 students. Even the Institute Management Committee has advised the institute to increase the intake, he added.

The demand for the courses irrespective of whether it is Post-Graduation or certificate has increased, as the job opportunities are there both in the country and abroad.

Apart from this, it is equally important to focus in the fields of water, food and health, he said.

Earlier, Sri Jayachamarajendra College of Engineering (SJCE) Principal Dr. T. N. Nagabushan said that technology was growing very fast and people were adopting and using it    in their daily lives.

He distributed medals and certificates to the students of M.Sc (Food Technology) and ISMT (International School of Milling Technology).

Aditi bags 6 gold medals

Aditi topped the list of medal winners by bagging six gold medals in M.Sc (2015-17). Meethu Pandey and K.Mohammad Usmad who scored the highest marks in Plantation Products and Flowers were conferred one gold medal each, while Shweta Srivatsa got the silver medal and Vishwamitra Angarika and Varun Arora were presented the Ranganna Setty award.

In the ISMT course Hippur Khan won the G.K.Jalan gold medal, Rahul Prakash Wagh got the Delhi Flour Mill Silver Medal and Vatsagupta the Shivaji Roller Flour Mill Bronze Medal.

Certificates were presented to Divya Choudhary, K.C. Sharatchandra, P. Shibina and Manu. Food Technology Department Coordinator Dr.R.P. Singh and ISMT Coordinator Gangadarappa were present on the occasion.
