December 28, 2024

Mysuru:  A case has been registered at the Mysuru City Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station after a fraudster, posing as a Customs Officer, duped a doctor from Vidyanagar of Rs. 9.21 lakh. The scam unfolded four months ago when the con artist befriended the doctor and claimed that a valuable gift was being sent from London.

Soon after, the doctor received a call from another number, purportedly from the Customs Office, demanding payment of taxes for the parcel’s release.

Believing the story, the doctor made multiple transfers totalling Rs. 9,21,174. When the fraudster demanded additional payments, the doctor grew suspicious. Upon further inquiry, it was discovered that the entire setup was a scam.
