Forest tribals begin indefinite overnight protest from today

Mysuru:  Urging the government to implement Forest Rights Act and fulfil other demands, members of Karnataka Forest Tribals Federation and Forest Tribal Settlement Committee began an indefinite overnight protest in front of Mini Vidhana Soudha in H.D. Kote this morning.

Addressing a press meet at Pathrakartara Bhavan in that context here yesterday, Federation Convenor Shailendrakumar said that forest tribal communities live in H.D. Kote, Periyapatna and Hunsur taluks and pointed out that many of them were displaced from the forest during the implementation of Wildlife Protection Act and for the construction of dams. He regretted that no proper rehabilitation measures were taken. He also urged the fulfilment of other demands like up-gradation of Ashram Schools, proper wage pattern for teachers there and other forest rights.
