Former Hunsur CMC Member arrested for organising prayer meet

Hunsur: The Hunsur Police on Saturday arrested a former Hunsur City Municipal Council (CMC) Member for organising a religious prayer meet (Namaz) at his house in the town, in violation of the lockdown regulations.

Mohammad Mohidullah Shariff is the former CMC Member who was arrested and later released on Station Bail.

Acting on a tip off that two persons who had attended Nizamuddin Tablighi Jamaat meet at New Delhi last month had returned and were staying at the former CMC Member’s residence in the town’s Shabbir Nagar, Police team headed by Inspector K.C. Poovaiah, along with Tahsildar Basavaraj, went to Shariff’s house for an enquiry, when they found a number of footwears outside the second floor of the house. 

Upon suspicion, the team raided Shariff’s house, when more than 10 persons were found attending a prayer meet in gross violation of lockdown regulations. However, all of them managed to escape after seeing the Police,      it is learnt. 

The Police, after seizing the carpet and mat allegedly used for Namaz, arrested the house owner Shariff and booked cases against nine others under Sections 188, 269, 270, 291 R/W 149 of IPC. However, Shariff was later released on Station Bail.
