Former Mayor demands restoration of water supply

Mysore/Mysuru: Former Mayor Sandesh Swamy has demanded restoration of drinking water supply to houses where MCC has disconnected the same.

Addressing a press meet at a private hotel in city yesterday, Sandesh Swamy, quoting the Municipal Act of 1976, said that the Act clearly states that the Civic Body, after issuing the bill, should collect the same within 90 days and added that the MCC had not collected the bill since 10 to 20 years and is now issuing the pending bill amount with interest to residents all of a sudden.

Pointing out that the water bill also states that only water connections have to be disconnected for non payment of bills that too only after giving a notice seven days in advance, the former Mayor alleged that the MCC was collecting huge water bills from hapless residents.

The former Mayor said that when the MCC had earlier issued such bills with interest to a few industries and went there to collect the bill amount, these industries had approached a Court, which had ordered the MCC to collect only the principal amount of the bill and not with interest. He wondered how the State Government had issued an order to collect water bills with interest.

He demanded MCC Commissioner to get the water connection restored to the houses where the MCC had disconnected the supply and urged the MCC to collect only the principal bill amount from the consumers.
