Prof. BKC flays Kannada writers’ double standards over medium of instruction

Mysuru: Former Minister for Primary Education Prof. B. K. Chandrashekar (BKC) has said that famous Kannada writers, who oppose English medium in schools, do not send their children and grandchildren to Kannada medium schools.

Speaking after inaugurating the Alumni Association of Maharaja’s College here yesterday, Prof. BKC said these writers act as if they know everything under the sun.

“When I was the Education Minister, the government wished to introduce English medium from third standard, but these writers opposed it tooth and nail. Now, the same writers are advocating English medium from first standard itself,” he added.

He said, “Education is the only means for a person to become a good citizen. Education doesn’t just improve one’s intellectual level, but also standard of living.”

Maharaja’s College has contributed a lot to academics. Writers like Kuvempu, Tee Nam Sri, Prof. G. S. Shivarudrappa, Dr. Chidanandamurthy, Dr. U. R. Ananthamurthy and many others studied here. They also taught here. It is the duty of all students, old and new, to carry forward their legacy, he said.

Retired Police Officer Dr. Subhash Bharani, also an alumnus of Maharaja’s College, was the chief guest on the occasion.
