Former Minister M.C. Nanaiah heading towards Congress?

Madikeri: Former Minister Marianda C. Nanaiah, who is currently in the JD(S), seems to be heading towards the Congress, with Chief Minister Siddharamaiah evolving a plan to bring the senior JD(S) leader to Congress fold, in order to break BJP’s strong presence in Kodagu district.

CM Siddharamaiah, who is scheduled to visit Kodagu tomorrow (Jan.9) for ‘Sadhana Samavesh,’ is likely to meet M.C. Nanaiah and officially invite him to the Congress. Siddharamaiah, who was Finance Minister in the erstwhile Janata Dal Government in the 1990s, had maintained good relationship with M.C. Nanaiah who was Law Minister then.

The CM, now using this relationship, will meet Nanaiah and invite him to the Congress, to take on the BJP in the coming Assembly polls.

Even as Siddharamaiah has begun to woo him, Nanaiah who is currently in the JD(S), seems to be upset with the party leaders for ignoring him.

Meanwhile, M.C. Nanaiah has said that everything is not right in the JD(S) and that the party was ignoring loyal workers who had toiled hard for the party over the years. The recent appointment of party office-bearers lends credence to the fact that the party leaders had ignored loyal workers.

Stating that his followers had convened a meeting on Monday to discuss the fissures in JD(S) after the appointment of new party office-bearers, Nanaiah claimed that reports on him joining the Congress were not correct. However, Siddharamaiah is likely to meet him when he visits Kodagu on Jan.9 and they had worked together while in Janata Parivar. He further said that he had no plans as of now to quit JD(S).
