Former Minorities Welfare Minister Prof. Mumtaz Ali Khan passes away

Bengaluru: Former Karnataka Minister Prof. Mumtaz Ali Khan passed away at his residence in Bengaluru due to age-related ailments early this morning. He was 94.

He is survived by his wife and a daughter.  He had served as Haj, Wakf and Minorities Welfare Minister in the B.S. Yediyurappa-led BJP Government formed in 2008.

A soft spoken leader, he had served as a Professor at the Agricultural University, Bengaluru, before entering politics. He had joined the Congress after quitting as MLC, expressing displeasure over the BJP’s decision to name Narendra Modi as its Prime Ministerial candidate ahead of the 2014 Lok Sabha (LS) Polls.
