Mandya: Former MLC and senior Congress leader of Mandya district, M.D. Ramesh Raju (80) passed away at his residence in Subashnagar here on Monday following brief illness.
Ramesh Raju, who was the son of former Legislator J. Devaiah, had unsuccessfully contested on a Congress ticket from the erstwhile Keragodu Assembly segment of the district. He was nominated to the Legislative Council when S.M. Krishna was the Chief Minister.
Ramesh Raju had also served as Chairman of MySugar factory and as Mandya District Congress President for several years. He was the President of Arakeshwara Educational Institutions in Mandya. He is survived by his wife, a son, a daughter and a host of relatives and friends. Last rites were held at the burial grounds on Holalu road late on Monday evening, it is learnt.
