Student killed as scooter hits roadside tree

Mysore/Mysuru: A 19-year-old student, who was riding pillion on a scooter, was killed while the rider suffered minor injuries when the scooter they were riding hit a roadside tree near the Office of the Deputy Commissioner on July 16 night.

While the deceased pillion rider has been identified as K.S. Hemanth, a student from Periyapatna, the injured is 19-year-old K.R. Yashas, a student from Kodagu.

On July 16 night, four students on two scooters were returning after attending the birthday party of their friend. At about 10.30 pm, when there was a light drizzle, the Honda Activa scooter (KA-12-R-9557), which was ridden by Yashas with Hemanth riding pillion, brushed against the traffic signboard just after Crawford Hall and hit a roadside tree.

As Yashas was wearing a helmet, he sustained minor injuries, but Hemanth, who sustained serious head injuries after his head hit the iron angle installed to the signboard, was being rushed to K.R. Hospital, but he breathed his last mid way. KR Traffic Police, who have registered a case, are investigating.
