Former Mysore Varsity Professor N. Rudraiah passes away

Mysuru:  Dr. N. Rudraiah (88), a mathematician of international repute, former Professor at University of Mysore, former Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University and a resident of Vijayanagar passed away yesterday at his residence following age-related ailments.

He leaves behind one son, daughter-in-law, grand children and a host of relatives and friends.

A native of Bellavi in Tumakuru district, Rudraiah used to spend his time at his farmhouse on the outskirts of city.

He did his schooling at Tumakuru and completed his degree and post-graduation at the University of Mysore. After completing his studies in Applied Mathematics at Toronto in Canada, he secured his PhD there.

He served as a Professor at Mysore University and Bangalore University and had served as the Principal of Central College in Bengaluru. Rudraiah also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Gulbarga University from 1990 to 1996 and was also a Visiting Professor at various reputed universities across the globe.

Rudraiah was the recipient of Rajyotsava Award, Sir.M.V. Visvesvaraya Award and Plato Award of England among other awards.

Last rites were held at his farmhouse in Bannikuppe, Hunsur taluk this morning, according to sources.
