Former PM Deve Gowda to donate two months’ salary for flood relief

Mysuru/Bengaluru: Former Prime Minister and JD(S) Supremo H.D. Deve Gowda has announced that he will be donating his two months salary for flood relief funds in Kodagu and Kerala.

Announcing this at a private function in city yesterday, the former PM said that he had never seen such a heavy rainfall in the last 60 years and added that lakhs of people have been displaced in Kerala due to  floods.

Stating that his one month salary would be donated to Kodagu and another month’s salary to Kerala, Deve Gowda has appealed the people to extend their support to the flood victims.

Congress MLAs and MPs to donate one month’s salary: Meanwhile, KPCC President Dinesh Gundu Rao yesterday announced that the Congress MLAs and MPs would be donating their month’s salary for flood relief works.

The decision to donate salaries was taken at a meeting of Congress General Secretaries, Party In-charge of States, Legislature Party leaders and State Unit Chiefs, which was presided over by AICC President Rahul Gandhi.

Insisting that Prime Minister Modi should ‘not play politics’ in such matters, Rahul Gandhi also mentioned that the Kerala situation should be declared a “national calamity” with immediate effect.
