Former Union Minister Oscar Fernandes hospitalised

Condition critical, to be operated on Thursday

Mangaluru: The condition of former Union Minister and Rajya Sabha Member from Karnataka Oscar Fernandes continues to be critical on the second day today. 

The Senior Congress leader is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Mangaluru after he suffered a fall while exercising on Monday. 

On Tuesday, it was discovered that he had a clot in the brain, after he went to his regular hospital where he undergoes dialysis. 

He had informed the doctor that he had been getting frequent headaches after his fall on Monday and the hospital immediately admitted him.

According to a source from the Congress party, the veteran leader is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) after being diagnosed with internal injuries. Sources also said that a Neuro-Surgeon from Manipal has been monitoring his condition and is expected to operate on him on Thursday depending on his condition.

The 80-year-old Congress leader was the Union Cabinet Minister for Transport, Road and Highways in the Manmohan Singh-led Government. During the same tenure, he was also given the additional charge of the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
