Jairam Ramesh to personally contribute Rs.5.50 lakh to the Institute
Mysore/Mysuru: With the city’s Oriental Research Institute (ORI) located near Crawford Hall organising a book expo with a 50 percent discount on sale of books, former Union Minister Jairam Ramesh who was in city on a private visit visited the Institute on Thursday and had a glimpse of the books on display.
Appreciating the rare and rich collection of palm leaf scripts and paper manuscripts, he was surprised to find that the Institute had a complete collection of Kautilya’s Arthashastra and a good number of several other rare and useful books.
Suggesting the ORI Director Dr. S. Shivarajappa to continue his good work, Ramesh announced that he will personally contribute Rs.5.50 lakh for ORI.
Member of the erstwhile Mysore Royal family Pramoda Devi Wadiyar and others were present on the occasion.
Meanwhile the two-day book expo at ORI, which was scheduled to end on Thursday, was extended by a day following a good response. The second day of the expo on Thursday saw a good sale of books (worth Rs.50,000), according to ORI Director Dr. Shivarajappa.
