Mysore/Mysuru: The Elder Citizens Council and Trust, Mysuru, felicitated five senior citizens for their contributions to society and also awarded scholarships to five meritorious and economically disadvantaged students. The event was a part of the Founders’ Day celebrations held recently at its Saraswathi Samudaya Bhavan in Jayalakshmipuram.
Inaugurating the programme, Cauvery Group of Institutions Founder and Chairman Dr. G.R. Chandrashekar lauded the Council’s initiatives, particularly the conduct of monthly health talks exclusively for senior citizens and the extension of scholarships to deserving students from economically weaker sections.
The senior citizens felicitated for their lifetime achievements were Dr. N.S. Rame Gowda (former Vice-Chancellor, University of Mysore), Dr. B.V. Shivamurthy (Veterinary), C.L. Srikantaiah (Engineer), Huche Gowda (Social Worker) and Manjula D. Rajasekhar (Educationist).
Scholarships were awarded to five students who had performed well in recent public examinations despite economic constraints.
Responding on behalf of the honourees, Dr. Rame Gowda said that senior citizens are valuable assets to society whose experience serves as guidance for the younger generation.
He also urged senior citizens to remain socially active and engage with social media to contribute to moral values in society.
Former MUDA Chairman H.V. Rajeev, who was the chief guest, called upon senior citizens to remain active and safeguard their well-being through proper healthcare in the changing social environment. He encouraged them to stay engaged with society, lead independent and comfortable lives, and avoid loneliness by remaining happy and healthy.
Trust Chairman Gowdappa presided over the function. Secretary Dr. N.K. Ramachandre Gowda, Council President Dr. H.M. Nagaraj, Vice-President K.V. Ramanath, Secretary K.S. Krishna, Prof. Javare Gowda, V.N. Achar, Susheela Mari Gowda, Venkateshaiah, M.K. Nanjaiah, D. Srinivas, Sannalinge Gowda and others were present.
