Trees uprooted; parks, roads, houses flooded
Mysuru: Moderate rainfall (7.5 mm to 35 mm) will continue in city for four more days, said N. Nagendra Babu, Research Associate at Organic Farming and Research Station in Naganahalli.
Speaking to Star of Mysore, Nagendra Babu said that there would be no continuous but intermittent rainfall for four days besides stating that there would be variation in wind speed.
He further said that the cloudy and cold weather was due to depression in Orissa Coast and added that rain due to the depression would not impact much in the State. He said that 14.4 mm rainfall was recorded yesterday at the observatory in the Organic Farming and Research Station. Today morning too, the weather was cold and cloudy along with light drizzle which intensified at about 12 noon.
Holiday for schools and colleges: Following heavy rainfall, a day’s holiday has been declared for schools and colleges in H.D. Kote and Periyapatna taluks today.
Meanwhile, continuous rainfall since two days has disrupted normal life in city. Moderate rainfall which began on Monday afternoon lashed the city continuously throughout the night and continued on Tuesday too.
Thick dark clouds hovered the city resulting in continuous rain and cold weather. While trees were uprooted in Gokulam, Vijayanagar 3rd Stage, Shanthinagar and on Sayyaji Rao Road, opposite MCC, rainwater entered houses in low lying areas of the city.
The tree opposite to MCC came crashing down on the busy Sayyaji Rao Road damaging the balustrades and disrupting vehicular movement. The MCC Abhaya team, which rushed to the spot cleared the fallen tree and made way for the smooth flow of traffic.
Rainwater inundates parks and roads: The park, opposite to Mall of Mysore on M.G. Road was inundated with rainwater causing inconvenience to morning and evening walkers. This apart, many parks across the city were also flooded due to continuous rainfall.
Prominent roads such as Dhanvantri Road, Sheshadri Iyer Road, Hardinge Circle (J.C. Wadiyar Circle) were also flooded giving tough time for pedestrians and motorists.
