Mandya: Even as Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy (HDK) announced farm loan waiver in his Budget recently, four members of a farmer’s family ended life at Sunkathonur village in Pandavapura taluk this morning.
The deceased have been identified as Nandeesh (40), a farmer, his wife Komala (35) and children Chandana (15) and Manoj (13).
Nandeesh had secured loans amounting to over Rs.6 lakh from Banks and private money lenders, for agriculture purpose. But Nandeesh is said to have failed to clear debts due to crop loss.
A depressed Nandeesh and his family members in a suicide pact, reportedly consumed poison last evening at their isolated farm house about 1km away from Sunkathonur. The four were found dead this morning by villagers, who alerted the jurisdictional Melukote Police.
Nandeesh is said to have written to Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy twice on the loans he had borrowed, it is learnt.
Melukote Police, who have registered a case in this regard, are investigating.
