Four persons including three from Mysuru meet watery grave at Muthathi

Mandya: In a tragic incident, four persons including three from Mysuru drowned in Cauvery River near Muthathi in Mandya district on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Nagesh (45), his son Bharat (17), Mahadeva (14) and Guru (32). While Nagesh, Bharat and Mahadeva were the residents of Gundu Rao Nagar in Mysuru, Guru was a resident of Bengaluru.

It is learnt that a total of 40 members of families in Mysuru and Bengaluru had come in a bus to offer puja at Muthathiraya Temple on Tuesday morning. After having the darshan of the deity, a few of them ventured into Cauvery River for a swim during which Mahadev was caught in the whirlpool and drowned.

Nagesh, Guru and Bharat, who went to the rescue of Mahadev were also caught in the whirlpool and met watery grave. While the bodies of Nagesh and Bharat were fished out from the River in a few minutes, the bodies of Mahadeva and Guru were fished out in the evening.

All the four bodies were shifted to Malavalli Taluk Hospital, where post-mortem was conducted before being handed over to their  family members.

Halagur Police have registered a case.
