Four shops burgled in 45 days at Hanumanthanagar in city

Mysore/Mysuru: Serial theft of shops located on the main road of Hanumanthanagar in Bannimantap has not only left the shop owners in a State of shock but has also left them worried as four shops including two medical shops have been burgled in a span of 45 days.

Yesterday between 1.40 am and 2.17 am, two medical shops including a Jan Aushadhi Kendra have been burgled. A CCTV camera has captured masked burglars decamping with cash and a few items from the medical shop.

Benaka Medicals

At about 1.40 am, three masked burglars, who came in a white coloured Honda Activa scooter and a Bajaj Pulsar bike, along with an iron crowbar, broke opened the five locks of the medical store and used the crowbar to lift the shutter. 

While two of them gained entry into the medical store, one of them stood guard at a distance to give signal to his accomplices in case anyone comes. The burglars have decamped with Rs. 8,000 cash from the cash box and a few items from the shop.

Jan Aushadhi Kendra

After burgling Benaka Medicals, the burglars targeted the Jan Aushadhi Kendra, next to Anjaneyaswamy Temple on the Main Road. Burglars, who broke open the locks of the shutter, entered the shop and first stole Rs. 3,000 cash kept in the cash box and also made away with a few items such as gift boxes, sanitary pads and other items worth about Rs. 9,200 from the shop.

In these two burglaries, the thieves have given importance to stealing cash but have also stolen items they could lay their hands on but have not taken away tablets and other drugs.

The burglary incident has been captured by a CCTV camera. The thieves on entering the medical store, first changed the direction of the CCTV camera installed on the wall above the cash table and also switched on the torch focusing the light beam to the CCTV Camera. The camera has also captured the burglars breaking open the locks and forcibly opening the shutter of the shop. 

Milk booth burgled on June 1

On June 1 between 1 am and 2.15 am, burglars had forcibly opened the shutters of the Nandini Milk Booth, next to Anjaneyaswamy Temple on Hanumanthanagar Main Road and had made away with Rs. 3,000 cash and milk and milk products worth Rs. 16,000 from the milk booth, according to the complaint by the milk booth owner. 

After a few days of the milk booth being robbed, a medical store in the same locality was burgled and the thieves had decamped with Rs. 1,000 cash. Shop owners have lodged complaints at N.R. Police Station and the Police conducted an inspection of the crime spots and have obtained the CCTV footages. Investigation is going on.

Need for Police beat

Meanwhile, shopkeepers of Hanumanthanagar have urged Police to increase the frequency of the beat system to put an end to burglaries besides taking steps to prevent thefts in future.
