FPA India Mysuru Branch celebrates Women’s Day

Mysore/Mysuru: FPA India, Mysuru Branch, celebrated International Women’s Day at its premises in city recently. The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Ruth Shantha Kumari, Principal, St. Philomena’s College. 

Speaking on the role played by women in the upliftment of society, she said women carry out lots of responsibilities such as housekeeping, maintenance of home, upbringing of children and in addition she is also capable of carrying out administrative, academic, scientific, political and other types of responsibilities.  She has special qualities which men do not possess.  In spite of these, thousands of women are harassed in various ways including gender and sexual reasons.  Women are also the victims of social and religious beliefs, she rued.

Highlighting the contribution of women to society, she appreciated the role played by women while combating COVID-19. 

Prof.  S.N. Hegde  Chairperson, FPA India, who presided, regretted that women are considered second grade citizens in our country. He felt it should have been the other way round. 

He suggested that even men should be sensitised about the role of women so that the atrocities on women would automatically get reduced. 

On the occasion, Dr. Ruth Shantha Kumari and COVID warrior Suvarna, a Staff Nurse at K.R.Hospital, were felicitated.  Bijimole welcomed. Devika proposed a vote of thanks. Shaheen Taj compered the                        programme.
